Summary of class achievements

Inaugural Class of 2007
  • Henderson Health Alliance, a group of business, community and health care leaders dedicated to "increasing the use of wellness programs in the businesses of our community.”   
  • Advocacy for a Regional Approach to Government.  
  • Advocacy for an Increased Focus on Education in the Community.   

Class of 2010
  • Bank on Henderson. Program that help its customers remain on a budget, manage a checking account, improve their credit rating and pay off debt . 
  • The Community Foundation of Henderson.  The goal of this rural endowment is to grow a positive future for Henderson and Henderson County. 
  • The Brain Bus.  This mobile technology lab seeks to serve low­ income neighborhoods to help students retain and improve their reading and math skills. 

Class of 2008
  • Henderson County Dental Help Line. Goal to develop a more organized, more well-known and more integrated 'funnel' through which people could be helped with dental needs.  
  • Highlight Henderson. A consortium to "act as a hub, where beautification entities could exchange information about their programs and current activities, and make plans for the future.”  
  • Lead2Read. A mentoring program to help struggling young students bolster their reading skills and catch up with classmates.
Class of 2012
A Community Needs Assessment was conducted in the areas of education, the economy ,and government in Henderson County. 
  • Education. The main findings revolved around the areas of adequate parent involvement, student discipline, and standardized testing.   
  • Economics. The main findings related to the need to both develop and promote the downtown and riverfront areas of Henderson.   
  • Government. The main findings related to the need for a clear vision of the town’s identity and future.  

Class of 2009
  • Success by Six. Advocated use of the Ages and Stages assessment tool  to help parents evaluate their child's large and small motor skills, problem- solving abilities and social relations.  
  • Plugged-In: Energy Economic Development and Education Initiative included two initiatives. The first aims to be the marketing arm of the effort to bring jobs to the area. The second aims to teach students that jobs are waiting for them in energy.   
  • Colonels Leadership Initiative. This program’s  goal to groom the next generation of leaders -- only it would be for high school students.  
  • Green Plus. Geared toward small and medium-sized businesses to give them practical, affordable support in becoming more green.   

Class of 2013
A Community Needs Assessment was conducted in the areas of education, the economy , government  physical exercise, recycling, and downtown development in Henderson County. 
  • Environment. The main findings highlighted the recent revitalization that has occurred in downtown Henderson, the need for more recreation and entertainment options for downtown, and the increased availability of curbside recycling pickup 
  • Health and Wellness. The main findings highlighted the issue of obesity, the lack of availability of healthier food options, the perception of exercise and the need for better health care options such as after hour clinics, health care education, geriatric health care, and more community based health care.
