Have questions? Read HLI's FAQ:
How does HLI work?
HLI consists of one year of classes, taking place one morning per month (typically 8 a.m.-noon on the third Friday of each month, with adjustments made to avoid conflicting with holidays in November and December). HLI exists to assist emerging community leaders and develop new leaders.
What do the classes consist of?
Our Board of Directors, executive director, and invited faculty members lead the classes, which cover team building; adaptive, collaborative and servant leadership; governance; public policy advocacy; community history, and other topics. Significant time is dedicated to networking and coalition building during the year.
Each class takes place at a different venue in the community, which provides variety and broadens participants' familiarity with facilities across our community. For example, one class will take place at the Brain Injury Adventure Camp, which tasks groups of class members with solving physical and logistical challenges, promoting team building and problem solving.
When do classes begin?
Class members will attend our Annual Class Leadership Retreat, an overnight event held in New Harmony, Indiana, in February of 2025. Monthly half-day classes will begin in March 2025.
A graduation ceremony will take place in January 2026 for participants who have fulfilled the requirements of the program, including regular class attendance and participating in planning a class community improvement project. Note that successful completion of the project will likely involve work with classmates outside class sessions and following graduation.
What have HLI graduates gone on to do?
Our more than 200 graduates, called HLI Fellows, today fill leadership roles throughout the Henderson community. Some are now corporate CEOs. Others have advanced in their careers. Our Fellows include business owners, school principals and other educators, executive directors of non-profit organizations, elected and government officials and other professionals. HLI Fellows comprise a veritable Who's Who of Henderson leadership.
What is the cost?
Tuition for the annual institute is
$1,500, to be invoiced in December 2024 to the responsible party at the address listed below. Tuition is non
refundable and not applicable to future years. See a field below if you would like to be considered for financial assistance or a payment plan.
What is the deadline for applications?
Applications for the class of 2025 are CLOSED. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 15th, 2024. Applicants will be informed of their status by December 31st, 2024 . The applications for the class of 2026 will open in October of 2025.
Is everyone who applies accepted?
Space in each HLI class is limited to no more than 25 participants to ensure the best experience. In some years, we have received more applications than we could accommodate.
